Carjacking Scheme: Paper in the rear window of your vehicle.

Carjacking Scheme: Paper in the rear window of your vehicle.

Tactic
Carjackers place a piece of paper on the rear window of a vehicle.
When the person gets inside, sees the paper in his/her rearview mirror and
exits the vehicle to remove the paper, the hijacker(s) appears out of
nowhere, hijacks the vehicle and off he goes with the vehicle and its
contents, hopefully leaving your unharmed.

Solution
Always check your rear window before getting in your vehicle, as well as
checking under it, inside it (especially the back seat) and beware of people
in a vehicle adjacent to your driver's side door, being especially aware of
vans. If you see something suspicious, exit the area, call security, find a
crowd of people but don't place yourself in jeopardy. Remember the woman who
saw a suspicious man around her car but approached her car anyway? When she
was putting her key in the keyslot to open the door, he assaulted her when
her back was turned. Regarding the paper on the rear window: if you do see
any paper after entering your vehicle, drive away and remove the paper later
when it's safe to do so.
